Troy returns two starters from last season in Sun Belt Freshman of the Year and Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team selection Wesley Person, and lone senior John Walton III. The squad also returns four other letterwinners: Kelton Ford, Christian Harrison, Jordan Howard and Aaron Ariri. Meanwhile Jeremy Hollimon, Jaro Moravek and Damion Ottman all return after redshirting the 2014-15 season.
Joining the team this season are junior college transfers Daniel Peace and Alex Hicks, and three freshmen: Jordon Varnado, Shawn Hopkins and B.J. Miller. Peace led the NJCAA in steals as a sophomore with 5.1 per game, on his way to being named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Year. Varnado is the brother of the All-Time NCAA career block record holder, Jarvis. Hopkins, a native of Nokia, Finland, won the FIBA U20 European Championship, the first gold medal in Finnish National Team history. Miller, a point guard from Meridian, Miss., led Meridian High School to a 24-7 record, which earned them a No. 5 ranking, and a trip to the MHSAA Class 6A Finals.
Last season, Troy finished 10-19 (5-15 Sun Belt) and missed out on the Sun Belt Conference Championships in New Orleans. Highlighting the season were sweeps over Sun Belt runner-up, Georgia Southern and UT Arlington.
South Florida enters its second year under head coach Orlando Antigua, who came to USF after working as an assistant coach under John Calipari for the previous six seasons at Memphis and Kentucky.
The Bulls welcome five newcomers to a team that went 9-23 last season, 3-15 in AAC conference play.
The Bulls return 60 percent of their scoring (1180-of-1970) and 74 percent of its rebounding from last season.
