Troy Set to Open ITA All-American Championships

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's tennis team will open play at the prestigious Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships this weekend at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Seven Trojans will begin play on Saturday in the singles pre-qualifying draw of the tournament. Daniel Bustamante, Stjepan Cagalj, Andy Lau, Pablo Moreno, Giovani Samaha, Vaclav Slezak and Francisco Yim Kim will all be looking to advance through the two-day draw and into the qualifying event, which begins on Monday.

The pre-qualifying draw has yet to be released, but will be posted on TroyTrojans.com as soon as it becomes available. Last season's All-American Championships pre-qualifying draw featured 256 players battling for 16 spots in the 128-player qualifying draw. From there, 16 individuals advanced into the 64-player main draw.

In addition to the seven student-athletes in the pre-qualifying singles draw, Troy will have Moreno and Samaha playing together in the doubles qualifying draw, which begins on Monday.

Bustamante, Lau, Moreno and Samaha all return from Troy's 2015 Sun Belt Championship team that won 25 matches in the spring and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Cagalj, Slezak and Yim Kim are all newcomers to the Troy program this year.

The ITA All-American Championships is one of the most prestigious tournaments in college tennis, and a part of the college grand slam. Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
