Giovani Samaha Advances to Semifinals at ITA Regional Championships

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Troy men's tennis senior Giovani Samaha continued his run through the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships on Saturday with a quarterfinal win. Samaha will now play in Sunday's semifinals.
Samaha defeated Tulane's Constantin Schmitz in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1. For the third straight match, Samaha came back after losing the first set against a seeded player. In fact, he was down 5-3 in the second set and fought off four match points before making the come back.
The win sets up a semifinal match against Auburn's Max Hinnisdaels, the sixth seeded player in the bracket.
Samaha is now just two wins shy of winning the Southern Regional, which would earn him a spot in the USTA/ITA Individual Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
The Trojans also played on the doubles court on Saturday, but saw Pablo Moreno and Samaha fall in the round of 16, dropping a tight match against UL Lafayette's Will Huyton and Arthur Libaud, 8-6.
Francisco Yim Kim was also in action for the Trojans, falling in the round of 16 in singles consolation bracket. Complete results from Troy's matches are listed below.
