TROY, Alabama – Freshman Wesley Person and junior Chris Bilbo posted career nights as the Troy men's basketball team defeated UT Arlington, 71-66, at Trojan Arena Monday night for the Trojans' first conference win of the season.
"That was a hard fought win," said head coach Phil Cunningham. "To our guy's credit, they never gave up. This will be a reference for the rest of the season, if we are ever back in that situation again. This will be a reference to never give up. We fought there in those last minutes to win the game. I thought we were really aggressive on both ends and attacked the boards."
The Trojans (6-6, 1-2) closed out the final 2:35 on a 9-0 run, making five of their last six buckets. Troy's aggressive defense forced UT Arlington to shoot 2-of-13 from the floor, including a 2:50 scoring drought.
Person, who set a career-high in points for the second straight game, led the Trojans with 31 points. He ended the night shooting 11-of-16 from the floor highlighted by his 5-of-6 showing from beyond the arc. Troy and UTA traded baskets to end the half.
