Troy Soccer Set to Host Trojan Classic

Troy, Ala. – The Troy University soccer team will host the Trojan Classic over the weekend with a pair of games on Friday and two more on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex. Live video of both Troy matches will be available on TroyTrojans.com. Live stats for all four matches can be found at TroyStats.com.

Action starts on Friday as Tennessee Tech and South Alabama square off at 1 p.m. Troy will face Kennesaw State at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Kennesaw State and South Alabama will get the day started with a noon match. Troy and Tennessee Tech will wrap things up at 3 p.m.

The Trojans (1-2) enter Friday's contest fresh off a 6-0 win over Alabama State. Troy fired off 38 shots in the contest with junior Alissa Jones taking 11, setting a new school single-game record. Chelsey Williams scored her 19th career goal in the 25th minute, moving her into a tie for third place in Troy all-time history. Two minutes later after Williams opened the scoring, Jones boomed a shot from distance to give Troy a 2-0 advantage. Jones scored her second goal of the game in the 48th minute on a deflected shot from Annabell Simpson.

Kennesaw State (0-1-1) comes into the match after earning a 1-1 draw at home against Georgia State on Monday. The Owls finished 2013 with a 9-9-1 record including a 2-0 victory over Troy in the first-ever meeting between the squads.

Tennessee Tech (0-1) opened its season with a 5-1 loss to East Tennessee State on Sunday. The Golden Eagles were 3-15-1 a year ago. Troy and Tennessee Tech have faced off once previously, in 1998, a 2-0 Golden Eagle win.
