Troy Cruises to Win over UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team dominated the top of the singles lineup in a 4-1 win on the road at UAB on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans now turn their attention to Sunday's regular season finale against UL Monroe.
Troy (13-7) got its usual strong performance from Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh at No. 1 doubles to set the tone. The pair won 8-2 to move to 16-2 on the season with 15 straight wins.
UAB (8-14) won at No.3 doubles, putting Troy's Hannah Toro and Lyubov Dorofeeva in a position to clinch the opening point with an 8-6 win at No. 2.
"We lost to UAB last season and the girls really wanted this match today," Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi said. "We played very aggressively in doubles and came out determined to finish the match quickly in singles."
Cosovic started the singles play for Troy with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Pardis Kianoush. Just days after seeing her seven-match winning streak snapped, Cosovic rebounded to move her spring singles record to 16-3.
Huynh posted her ninth straight win at No. 1singles as she knocked off UAB's Rachel Daniell, 6-2, 6-1, to move to 16-4 in singles play this spring.
After UAB got its lone point with a win at No. 5 singles, Dorofeeva clinched the match for Troy with another convincing singles win for the Trojans, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 2 singles over Amy Lowther.
Troy will remain in Birmingham to take on UL Monroe on Sunday. The Warhawks defeated UAB, 4-3, on Friday. The match is the final of the regular season for both Troy and ULM who will begin the Sun Belt Championships on Thursday in New Orleans, La.
