Troy Softball Finishes Weekend 4-1 With Split Sunday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Troy softball (13-11-2) split its final two games at the UCF Knights Spring Fling on Sunday, defeating Western Carolina (9-13), 4-1, and falling to host UCF (15-7), 4-1. The Trojans finished the weekend 4-1 and are now 8-3 in their last 11 games.
Ebony Wright was solid all day, going 3-of-6 at the plate and scoring once. Rachel Rigney finished the day with a pair of hits and an RBI.
Troy travels to in-state rival Auburn on Wednesday to take on the Tigers at 6 p.m. Troy opened the season against Auburn, with the game ending in a tie.
Troy 4, Western Carolina 1
The Trojans won their fourth straight game at the UCF Knights Spring Fling, downing Western Carolina 4-1.
Troy struck first, scoring twice in the first inning. Wright got things started with a bunt single and advanced to second when Alison Milam reached on an error. Rigney drove in Ebony on a single, and Michelle Phelps plated Milam on a sacrifice bunt.
Troy added another in the fifth on a solo-shot by Amanda Winters, her second home run in as many games.
Western Carolina would narrow the lead to 3-1 in the sixth on an RBI double.
The Trojans added their final run in the bottom half of the sixth. Ashley Rainey picked up a single and was pinch-run for by Leah Brundidge. Next up, Taylor Smartt drove in Brundidge on a double.
Rainey got the win for the Trojans after allowing five hits and striking out four in six innings. Sara Mock earned the save after a perfect seventh.
Troy 1, UCF 4
Troy ran into a tough UCF squad in game two, eventually falling 4-1.
The Knights scored one in the first and three in the second, but the Trojans held them off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Jaycee Affeldt pitched the whole game for the Trojans, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out five.
The Trojans rallied in the seventh, beginning with a single by Rigney. Next up, Phelps singled through the left side. Smartt then reached on a fielding error, loading the bases. The Trojans would plate their run on single by Meg Willis.
