Trojans Win Third Straight

TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team won its third straight match, this time defeating Sun Belt foe Arkansas State, 5-2, at home at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Troy (5-5) has now won four of five after starting the season 1-4 with three road losses to ranked teams. Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh continued to play well as each won her fifth straight singles match, plus the pair won their fifth straight as a doubles tandem.
"The girls came out strong in doubles which them lead this match," Troy head coach Rawia Elsisi said. Â "We lost a few spots in singles, but got a strong performance from the others. Â Overall, the team's performance was what I expected and we finished the match with a good win."
Cosovic and Trang at No. 1, combined with Brooke Durden and Lyubov Dorofeeva at No. 3, each won 8-2 in doubles action to give Troy the early lead.
Arkansas State (3-4) got a win at No. 4 singles to even the match before Cosovic won at No. 3 and Huynh won at No. 1 to put the Trojans up 3-1, and on the verge of clinching the match.Â
Cosovic, who won 6-0, 6-1, is now 8-1 in singles play on the season while Huynh, who won 6-2, 6-4, is now 7-3.
The Red Wolves won a three-set match at No. 2 singles to stay alive, but the Trojans won a pair of three-set matches at No. 5 and No. 6 to take the 5-2 win.
Durden clinched the match for Troy with a 6-0, 0-6, 7-6 (5) win at No. 6, evening her singles on the season at 4-4. Margot De Haan picked up the final win for the Trojans, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, at No. 5.
Complete results are below. The Trojans return to the court next Sunday when they travel to Florida Gulf Coast.
