Several Trojans Excel at USF Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. – The Trojan track and field team wrapped up competition Friday at the USF Open with many strong performances and several first-place finishes. The team continues to impress, despite being just two weeks into the season.
"We had a great meet this weekend and capped it off today with a lot of success," said head coach Jill Lancaster. Milestones were reached as the teams move forward in the second meet of the year. We were especially pleased with the women since this was the first time using this lineup."
The Trojan men's team swept its relays bringing home first and second place finishes in the 4x100 relay, and a first and third place finish in the 4x400 relay.
The first place 4x100 relay team made up of Benjamin Martin, Jordan Landburg, Thaddeus Curtis and Lance Holley completed their race in 41.09 seconds.
The 4x400 relay team comprised of Chaun Lynn, Landburg, Cameron Rice and Curtis placed first with a time of 3:15.58.
Martin and Curtis also brought home first place finishes for the Trojans in individual events. Martin completed the 100-meter dash in 10.57 seconds, his fastest time of the year, winning the event for the second straight week. Curtis had first place finishes in both the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles races.
Nathan Dobbs finished right behind Curtis placing second in the 400-meter hurdles and fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. Landburg ran the 200-meter dash in 21.85 seconds, placing second.
Myles Charley had a strong showing in the field events, placing second in the triple jump with a 14.52-meter jump, and fourth in the long jump. Hayes Grissom took third in the javelin with a throw of 58.43 meters.
Demetria Elia also placed first in the hammer throw on Thursday.
Troy's women's 4x100 meter relay team made up of Sierra King, Alexus Cobbs, Adria Hill and Tiffany Slater brought home first place finishing their event with a time of 48.25 seconds.
Corina Cox brought home a first place finish in discus, throwing 46.82 meters. It is the second week in a row that Cox has won the discus.Â
The 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Tiffany Slater, Dallas Worthy, King and Taylor McDonald placed third with a time of 3:56.46.
McDonald also had outstanding individual performances in the hurdle races, finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:02.83 and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Julia Ostendorf competed in the 3000-meter run finishing third with a time of 10:29.54. She also placed tenth in the 1500-meter run.
Nesha Defoe completed the triple jump in third place with a 10.89-meter jump, with Alexus Cobbs coming right behind her in fourth place. Cobbs also placed sixth in the long jump.
The Trojans will continue training and preparations for their meet next weekend at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa at the University of Alabama.
