TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Troy track and field is heading to the University of Alabama to compete in the Alabama Relays this weekend in Tuscaloosa.
"Both programs are getting off to a great start this season," said head coach Jill Lancaster. "Last week's competition provided better competition and this week will be the best of the season. Alabama Relays provides a competitive atmosphere and rivalry that is a source of pride and bragging rights for our team. Our athletes have risen to the occasion for the meet in the past and we expect the same this year."
The competition will begin on Thursday with the Men's Decathlon at 1:00 p.m. and Women's Heptathlon at 1:30 p.m. The men's and women's hammer throw will also take place on Thursday. Competition continues through Saturday.
The Trojans relay teams have given several strong performances this season so far. This past weekend at the USF Open in Tampa, Fla., both Troy's men and women brought home first place finishes in the 4x100 meter relays.
The men's 4x100 relay of Benjamin Martin, Jordan Landburg, Thaddeus Curtis and Lance Holley have had an impressive season so far, placing first in both the USA Jaguar Opener and the USF Open.
Martin has had an impressive individual season, placing first in the 100-meter dash at both previous meets, and also won at the Alabama Relays a season ago.
Curtis has also had standout performances in the hurdle races, taking first in both the 110-meter hurdle and 400-meter hurdle race last weekend.
On the women's side, Corina Cox has been equally impressive, winning the discus in back-to-back meets. Cox is currently ranked fifth nationally in the event.
