Soccer Hosts Texas State to Open SBC Slate on Sunday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy soccer team plays host to Texas State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Troy Soccer Complex as the Trojans begin league play against one of the Sun Belt's newest members.

Sunday's match marks the first-ever meeting between the Troy (4-6-0) and Texas State (3-5-1). Last weekend, the Trojans split a pair of matches, knocking off Gardner-Webb 3-1 on Friday before falling at Kennesaw State 2-0 in their final non-conference match of the years last Sunday.

"We are excited to open conference against a good team," Troy head coach Chris Bentley said. "We have come a long way since the beginning of the year and are eager to put our hard work to the test."

Troy owns a 3-1-0 record at the Troy Soccer Complex this season. The Trojans have won three straight home matches and outscored opponents 12-3 in its last three outings on its home turf.

Freshman Necee Jennings continues to lead the way, leading Troy with five goals on the season. Jennings also leads Troy with 10 points in 2013. Seniors Maddie Tieken and Cecilia Thorngren are tied with three goals apiece with freshman Abby Reynolds.

Caitlin Buono and Madison Winter split time in goal for the Trojans in last Sunday's match at Kennesaw State. Buono played through the first half, while Winter made her first appearance since Troy's season-opening win at Alabama State to finish the match.

Texas State begins Sun Belt play at South Alabama before traveling to Troy on Sunday. The Bobcats have picked up just one win in their last six matches, recording a 2-1 win against Sam Houston State on Sept. 13.

Offensively, Lynsey Curry leads the Bobcats and ranks third in the Sun Belt with 35 shots. Curry leads Texas State with four goals, while teammate Tori Hale has posted a team-leading three assists this season.
