Â
"We are very excited to finish up the non-conference schedule," Troy head coach Chris Bentley said ahead of this weekend's matches. "We have been steadily improving and these games will give us a chance to continue to do that. Both (Gardner-Webb and Kennesaw State) will present challenges that we have not seen yet this season."
Â
Troy (3-5-0) snapped a three-match losing streak last Sunday against Murray State; scoring four goals in the second half to pick up a 4-2 victory over the Racers. Freshman Abby Reynolds led the way by picking up two goals, including the game-winner, while freshman Necee Jennings and senior Maddie Tieken scored a goal each in the comeback win.
Â
A pair of feats could be accomplished this weekend as the Trojans look to record the 100th victory in program history, while Bentley looks to pick up his 50th win as the Trojans' head coach.
Â
Troy hosts Gardner-Webb (2-4-1) in the first meeting since 2004 when the schools were both members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led by Shelby Hooe, who leads the team in goals (5), assists (3) and shots (16).
Â
On Sunday, Troy travels to Kennesaw State (2-5-0) for its final non-conference matchup of the season to face the Owls for the first time in school history. The Trojans look to take to the attack against Kennesaw State as the Owls have allowed nine goals in their last five matches.
Â
With Sun Belt Conference play is right around the corner, Troy begins league play next Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Texas State at the Troy Soccer Complex in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
