Trojans Drop Finale at Blue Gray Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team concluded the prestigious Blue Gray National Tennis Classic with a 4-1 loss to William and Mary on Sunday at Lagoon Park Tennis Center.

Troy (7-9) finished the weekend 0-3 at the 65th annual Blue Gray Classic, with two of the losses coming to ranked opponents in No.2 Notre Dame and No.38 Nebraska.

The Trojans and Tribe played a tight doubles point, but William and Mary (7-12) got a close 9-7 win at second doubles to clinch the opening point. The two teams were tied at first singles, 6-6, when the point was decided.

Troy's Anas Rouchdi picked up the Trojans lone point with a dominant, 6-1, 6-3, win at first singles. However, the Tribe picked up three wins at the bottom of the lineup with straight-set victories at fourth, fifth and sixth singles.

Troy was in good shape in the remaining two matches. Mansingh Athare was in the third set with 119th-ranked Ben Guthrie after winning the second set, 3-6, 6-3, 1-3. At third singles, Troy's Sami Ghorbel was on the verge of winning, 7-6, 5-4, when the match finished.

The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for William and Mary. Complete results are below.

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday when they travel to take on UCF.
