LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Troy soccer team earned its second straight win with a familiar result on Sunday as Abby Reynolds' goal in the 54th minute delivered a 1-0 victory over UALR at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex.
Troy's (6-7-0, 2-1-0) Abby Reynolds took advantage of an empty net after scrum inside the 18-yard box allowed the freshman to collect a rebound to net her fourth goal of the year. The goal marked the freshman's second game-winner of the season.
"We fought tough today. It was a physical game and it was nice to get out of (Little Rock) with a win," Troy head coach Chris Bentley said after the road win. "UALR is a hard-working, physical team and are definitely not to be taken lightly."
Sunday's victory marked the second straight 1-0 result for the Trojans. Troy defeated Arkansas State 1-0 on Thursday at the Troy Soccer Complex behind Necee Jennings' first-half goal. The win also marked the first time since 2005 Troy has defeated both, UALR and Arkansas State, in the same season.
Madison Winter picked her third straight shutout in goal and improved her record to 3-0 this season. The senior earned three saves in the win over UALR. For the weekend, Winter did not allow a goal and made seven saves. Winter also only allowed one goal in 361 minutes in goal this season.
Reynolds led Troy with four shots; three on goal, while freshman Necee Jennings added four shots, two on goal. Senior Cecilia Thorgren fired three shots, one on goal, in the win. UALR's Adrianna Queen recorded a match-high five shots, one on goal.
Troy outshot UALR (3-9-0. 0-3-0) in the victory. Troy posted 18 shots, while UALR recorded 12. Troy's backline played superb in the shutout, clearing seven corner kicks by UALR and allowing just three shots on goal.
Troy continues its longest road trip of the year and faces Western Kentucky on Friday at 1 p.m. The Lady Toppers currently sit atop the Sun Belt standings with nine points in league play and sport a 3-0-0 record in conference action. Last season, Troy and WKU fought to a 1-1 stalemate in Bowling Green, Ky.
