Troy Men’s Tennis Concludes Play at ITA Regional

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team concluded play at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional on Friday. The Trojans won one singles match on the day in the consolation draw.

In the main singles draw, Sami Ghorbel took on Malte Stropp of the Mississippi State, the 30th ranked player in the country and third seed in the tournament. Ghorbel forced a third set against the ranked opponent, but was forced to retire, 4-6, 6-2, 3-0, ret.

In the main doubles draw, Ghorbel and partner Mansingh Athare took on Becker O'Shuaghnessesy and Daniil Proskura of Alabama, the 15th ranked pair in the nation and second seed in the tournament. Troy's lone doubles duo in the tournament fell to the pair from Alabama, 8-1.

In the consolation singles draw, Daniel Bustamante won a first round match over Sam Meesen from Nicholls State, 7-5, 6-2. Bustamante, coming off of a near upset of seventh-ranked Nik Scholtz on Thursday, nearly won his second round consolation match on Friday but fell to Fares Kilani of Samford, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9).

Also in consolation singles play, Athare received a first-round bye and fell in the second round to Sebastian Ray of Tulane, 6-1, 2-0, ret.

The Trojans return to the court on October 28 when they travel to Pensacola, Fla., for the ITF USA F29 Futures.
