Trojans Open Season with Road Win

CLINTON, S.C. – The Troy men's tennis team open its 2013 spring season with a tight road win over Presbyterian on Friday, 4-3.

The Trojans (1-0) took the reining Big South runner-up Blue Hose (2-2) to the brink, and Sami Ghorbel took the deciding match at fifth singles in three sets, 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

Troy put itself in a situation to win late thanks to strong play in doubles to begin the day. Daniel Bustamante and Anas Rouchdi won at third doubles, 8-4, while Ghorbel and Andre Stabile won at first doubles, 8-6, to clinch the opening point.

In singles play Bustamante and Patrick Eichler were also winners for Troy, at the third and sixth positions, respectively. Bustamante won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6, while Davies also took a straight-set match, 6-4, 6-3.

Presbyterian won at first, second and fourth singles, with the latter being in three sets as Troy's Mansingh Athare fell despite winning the first set, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

The Trojans return to the court on Sunday when they travel to take on No.42 UNC Wilmington for an 11 a.m. match.
