Trojans Fall at No.42 UNC Wilmington

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Troy men's tennis team was looking for a perfect weekend, but the Trojans fell at No.42 UNC Wilmington on Sunday, 7-0.

The Trojans (1-1) opened their season with a 4-3 win over Presbyterian on Friday, also on the road. Sunday's match marked the season opener for UNC Wilmington (1-0).

The nationally ranked Seahawks took control early as they won the first two doubles matches to take the opening point. Troy's team of Daniel Bustamante and Anas Rouchdi lost at third doubles, 8-1.

UNCW's top two doubles pairs each entered the match nationally ranked. At second doubles, Troy's Mansingh Athare and Patrick Eichler fell to the 53rd-ranked pair in the nation, 8-2.

Troy's Andre Stabile and Sami Ghorbel were down 7-4 to the 10th-ranked pair in the nation when the doubles point was decided.

In singles play, Troy lost all six contests in straight sets, with Stabile playing at first singles for Troy, drawing the toughest opponent, No.37 Rafel Aita. Stabile was down 6-3, 5-1 when he was forced to retire.

UNCW also set out No.121 Sam Williams as their second ranked competitor. Williams defeated Bustamante at third singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Complete results for Sunday's match are below. The Trojans will face yet another tough test on Tuesday when they travel to take on No.21 Auburn at 2 p.m.
