Troy Rodeo Finishes Fifth in Mississippi

SENATOBIA, Miss. – The second straight weekend of competition for the Troy rodeo team resulted in two fifth place finishes by the men's and women's team on Saturday at the first of two rodeos hosted by Northwest Mississippi Community College.
The men totaled 210 points to finish fifth out of the nine teams in the Ozark Region, and the women's total of 150 was good enough for a fifth place finish out of eight teams.
Freshman Nelson Wyatt claimed a third place finish in calf roping with 100 total points, and placed second in the average time with a 22.1 second performance. Southern Arkansas' Justin Johnson won the event with 170 total points.
Wyatt also competed in team roping, joined by Zach Mabry and Lane Taylor. Taylor and Wyatt claimed a fifth place finish in total points with 50, and placed fifth in the average with 22.8 seconds. Missouri Valley College's Brandon Barringer and Kasey Chism won with a 17.9 second average, and Troy's Mabry did not place.
The majority of the points totaled by the women's team came in the barrel racing event. Brittany Drawdy finished third in total points with 100. Her average time of 30.46 seconds allowed her to place second in the average behind Leslie Jennings of Southern Arkansas. Liza Ingram competed in the event but did not place.
Kassandra Smith was responsible for the team's remaining 50 points, as she placed sixth in points and sixth in the average with a 15.6 second performance. Charity Howk of Missouri Valley College won with a 14.3 second average.
The Vikings of Missouri claimed the men's team championship with 668 points, and Southern Arkansas defeated Tennessee-Martin by 45 points to win the women's team title.
Troy will look to complete the season in Centerton, Ark. with a strong performance this Thursday, April 26 through Saturday, April 28, to close out the collegiate season for the Ozark Region.
