Women’s Rodeo Claims Ozark Region Championship; Men Finish Ninth

MARTIN, Tenn. – The Troy women's rodeo team won the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Ozark Region championship as the regular season concluded this past weekend at the UT-Martin Rodeo. The Troy men finished ninth in the final region standings.
The Trojan women entered the final rodeo with a 351-point lead over Southern Arkansas and with their fifth place finish at UT-Martin defeated SAU by over 310 points in the final region standings. The Troy men finished eighth at UT-Martin.
At UT-Martin, Kesia Smith finished in a tie for third in goat tying after scoring 115 points. Her second run of 6.6 seconds was the best in the field and earned her 60 points. Kelsey Kennemer scored the remainder of Troy's points as she tallied 40 points in barrel racing.
Nelson Wyatt accounted for all of the men's points with a third-place finish in steer wrestling. His time of 4.0 in the first run was the best in the field and earned him 60 points, while his second run (6.4) netted him 10 points and his 10.4 average added 40 points to his total of 110.
Kennemer finished second in the region in the all-around competition, as she placed sixth in breakaway roping and fourth in barrel racing. Kesia Smith and Kassandra Smith finished second and third in the final region standings in goat tying with 650 and 635 points, respectively. Morgan Sellers finished seventh in the region in barrel racing and 14th in goat tying.
Wyatt ended the season ranked eighth in steer wrestling with 315 total points, while John Pitts placed third in the region in bull riding.
The women's team has qualified for the College National Finals in Casper, Wyo., on June 15-21.
