Trojan Spurs Looking for Improvement in Mississippi

TROY, Ala. – The Troy rodeo team will head to Senatobia, Miss. this weekend for the second rodeo over a span of three consecutive weeks.

Northwest Mississippi College will host two events, one being Thursday, April 19-21, with the other slated for Thursday, April 26-28.

The men's team holds a sixth place ranking in the 11-team Ozark Region with 1,910 points, just 285 behind third place Southern Arkansas, which is a margin that can be made up very easily.

The women's team, who saw much success last fall, sits fourth with 1,280 points. Their point margin is a little more than the men's team, with 331 separating them from third place Missouri Valley College.

Brittney Drawdy, Josey Owens and Kaley Dixon all enter ranked in the top-15 in the barrel racing event. Murray State's Allyson Hayes holds a 60 point lead in the event over Southern Arkansas' Leslie Jennings.

Whitney Hazouri and Cassidy Aldridge enter as the only Trojan Spurs in the top-15 in breakaway roping. Hazouri's success in the past has given her a fifth place standing, with Aldridge sitting seventh. Southern Arkansas' Ashley Mills leads the event by just eight points.

Kassandra Smith leads a trio of Trojans in the goat tying event with 365 points. Smith sits fifth, with Hazouri sitting 11th, and Lanie Culligan 14th.

Cody Skelton and Nelson Wyatt hold an 11th and 12th place standing in the tie down roping event.
In the heading portion of the team roping event, Lane Taylor and Jacob Locke sit fifth and 11th, respectively. In the heeling portion,
Zack Mabry and Nelson Wyatt sit behind one another in fifth and sixth, respectively.
