Troy Rodeo Returns to Action After Month-Long Break
3/28/2012 4:53:00 PM | Rodeo
TROY, Ala. – After a month of no competition for the Troy rodeo team, the Trojan Spurs will once again load up and hit the road for Monticello, Ark. this Thursday to compete in the Arkansas-Monticello Bollweevil Stampede.
The Trojans last saw action as a team on Feb. 23-25 when they took to the arena at the Cossatot Community College rodeo in DeQueen, Ark. Thursday-Saturday's rodeo action will be a primer for what will be a busy month for the Trojan Spurs in April.
The men's team heads into the weekend ranked fourth in the Ozark Region with 1,670 points. Missouri Valley College leads the 11-team region by over 1,400 points. The University of Tennessee-Martin sits in second, also with a huge gap over third place Southern Arkansas.
In tie down roping, both Cody Skelton and Nelson Wyatt sit in the top-10 in the standings. Skelton has accumulated 250 points thus far to place him fifth, and Wyatt has garnered 205 points to put him in a five-way tie for seventh.
The team roping event has been a highlight for the men all season, as four Trojans are ranked in the top-10. Lane Taylor sits in seventh in the header points and Jacob Locke is one spot behind in eighth. In the heeling portion, Zack Mabry is in third and Nelson Wyatt is in sixth.
The women's team has a much smaller point gap to overcome as they sit in second with 1,185 points, just 405 behind Southern Arkansas.
Brittney Drawdy is the only Trojan featured in the top-10 standings in the barrel racing event. Drawdy sits in a tie for sixth with 230 points, with third place well in reach.
Whitney Hazouri and Cassidy Aldridge both enter the rodeo in the top-10 in breakaway roping. Hazouri sits in third with 290 points and Aldridge sits tenth with 145 points.
Goat Tying is being dominated by a duo from Southern Arkansas; however, two Trojans sit in the top-10 in the points. Kassandra Smith, who had an impressive showing in November's Trojan Stampede, sits in fourth with 365 points. Hazouri currently sits eighth with 135 points.
