Trojans Grab First Win with Home Shutout

TROY, Ala. – The Troy men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Sunday as the Trojans swept Kennesaw State, 7-0, at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

The Trojans (1-4), who have played three matches in four days, swept the doubles point, but it wasn't easy. Sami Ghorbel and Anas Rouchdi took the first match, 8-3, in the number three spot, but number one and number two were battles.

Patrick Eichler and Ture Skinner were the first of the two to finish as the pair picked up a 9-7 win at number one singles while Jamie Eccleton and Mansingh Athare needed a tiebreaker at number two complete the sweep, 9-8 (9-7).

After the tough doubles competition, the Trojans had no problems with the Owls (3-3) in singles play as they took all six matches in straight sets.

Tadju Davis was the first off the court as he won at number five, 6-0, 6-1 over KSU's Matt Johnson. Eichler wasn't far behind him as he took care of Alexander Pena, 6-4, 6-2, to give Troy the 3-0 lead.

Skinner was able to clinch the match for the Trojans as his 6-2, 6-2, win over Michael Brouder at number six gave Troy their fourth point of the evening.

Eccleton got the win at number three, 6-2, 6-4, to put Troy up 5-0, while Ghorbel made it 6-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at number two.

Rouchdi completed the sweep as he knocked of Alex Toliver, 6-1, 6-2, at number one singles.

The Trojans return to the court on Saturday as they will host two matches, beginning with Alabama State with 9:00 a.m. and finishing with Jacksonville State at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
