Troy Drops Match To In-State Foe UAB

Birmingham, Ala.-- The Troy University men's tennis team (1-5) dropped a match against the UAB Blazers, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon.
The Blazers (6-2) started the sweep in doubles play when the No. 1 team of David Zimmerman and Tom Puetz defeated Troy's Patrick Eichler and Ture Skinner 8-3. Meanwhile, the No. 2 team of Danny Manlow and Daniel Moser clinched the doubles point after defeating Jamie Eccleton and Mansingh Athare 8-5.
UAB continued its sweep as the No. 3 team of Lucas Dirube and Chris Helliar dominated Troy's Sami Ghorbel and Anas Rouchdi, 8-5.
In singles play, the Blazers quickly captured the points needed to win the match.
No. 2 Zimmerman of UAB was the first off the court defeating Ghorbel 6-0, 6-3; while Helliar made quick work of Troy's Eccleton 6-2, 6-1at No. 3 singles. The match was clinched for the Blazers when the No. 6 singles slot Puetz defeated Skinner 6-0, 6-1.
At No. 5 Singles, Dirube of UAB defeated Davies in a tough match, 6-3, 6-1, 10-3. Moser continued the win streak for the Blazers as he defeated Eichler 7-6, 6-4, 12-10.
The Trojans continued their fight regardless of a loss as the No. 1 singles slot of Rouchdi defeated UAB's Dany Manlow 6-4,6-4, 11-9.
The Trojans return to action on March 2, when they travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on Southern Miss.
