Murray State Results
MURRAY, Ky. – The Troy men's and women's rodeo teams used point totals of 210 and 220 to claim fifth and second place finishes, respectively, on Saturday at the Murray State University Rodeo.
Kassandra Smith and Lanie Culligan led the way for the women, finishing second and third in goat tying, respectively. Smith combined for an average time of 17.4 seconds to finish second in the average and second overall with 130 points behind Southern Arkansas' Loni Pearce with 175. Culligan averaged a time of 19.8 seconds, good enough for a fourth place finish in the average and a third place overall finish with 95 points.
Morgan Sellars, a newcomer to the team, placed sixth in the average in barrel racing with a 28.59 second average and totaled 60 points for an overall fifth place result.
Kesia Smith and Kassandra Smith teamed up in the team roping event for an average time of 27.2 seconds and 20 total points.
The duo also competed in breakaway roping, with Kassandra coming away with the points. Kesia's first round time of 3.6 seconds was just off the mark to advance to the short-go, but Kassandra's time of 3.1 seconds allowed her to appear in the final round. After failing to record a time in the final round, Kassandra claimed an overall finish of a tie for fifth with 50 points.
The men's team improved on a finish of dead last from the last rodeo, to a fifth place result out of 10 teams thanks to consistent efforts from Zach Mabry and Albert McBride.
McBride recorded a first round time of 4.1 seconds to finish third overall with 80 points.
Mabry paired with Tennessee-Martin's Ben Walker for an impressive second place finish in both the average and overall point total. The duo combined for a two-round average of 15.1 seconds and totaled 130 points to finish 50 behind Tennessee-Martin's John Alley and Clark Adcock.
The teams will have limited time to rest as they will be back in action on Thursday, October 11, in Livingston to take part in The University of West Alabama rodeo.
