Troy Set for Two Home Matches
1/27/2012 10:36:00 AM | Tennis (W)
TROY, Ala. – The Troy women's tennis team will get its first chance to perform in front of the home crowd this weekend as it hosts Auburn and Florida A&M on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Both matches are set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex where admission is free.
Troy (0-3) is coming off a tough three-game stretch to open the season that saw the Trojans take on three nationally ranked opponents. On opening weekend, the Trojans fell to No.46 Kansas State and No.7 Georgia at the Bulldog Invitational in Athens, Ga.
After that, Troy traveled to Gainesville, Fla., to take No.1 Florida. Although the Trojans dropped all three matches, including the most recent to the defending National Champion Gators, the experience gained will prove invaluable for Troy.
“There is a reason we opened our season with these matches,” said head coach Eric Hayes following the Florida match. “It will pay off as we go deeper in our season. It starts this Saturday against Auburn.”
The Trojans are led by junior Karoline Grymel and senior Olfa Dhaoui, who have filled the first and second singles spots, respectively, all season.
Although neither has won a match, each has played against a nationally ranked opponent in every match. In fact, Grymel has yet to face an opponent outside of the nation's Top 20.
Auburn (0-0) will be playing its season opener on Saturday before returning home to host Alabama A&M and Southern Miss on Sunday.
The Tigers are led by Jen Pfeifler, the eighth-ranked player in the ITA Southern region.
