TROY, Ala. – The Troy (1-15, 0-5) women's basketball team prepares for their second of three straight home contests in which they will take on Florida Atlantic (8-8, 3-2) on Thursday.
The Trojans will be looking for their first home victory this season and will hope to get it against a Florida Atlantic team that has struggled in the past in Sartain Hall. The Owls fell to the Trojans last season in Troy 64-57. The Trojans have also won the past four out of the five meetings against the Owls on their home court.
Troy will look to the continued success of their leading scorer DeAngela Sword against the Owls. Sword averages 13.4 points a game this season and has recorded double-digit scoring in 14 of the last 16 games.
Jasmine Pitts will also need to continue her success from behind the three point arc for the Trojans as she is currently second in the Sun Belt conference for three point percentage with a .625 average.
A win against the Owls Thursday night would snap a seven game losing streak as well as give the Trojans their first conference victory this season.
“One thing we preach is focusing on the present,” said head coach Michael Murphy.
“We have to focus on the possession we have. It is a philosophy I think has served us well. It's a matter of focus, it's a matter preparation and it's a matter of determination. We have to have some leadership as well because you could easily fold up your tent by that point but we don't allow them to feel sorry for themselves and we have great leadership on the team. We're going through a really rough stretch but our players refuse to quit and it really shows their character.”
The Trojans will tipoff against the Owls Thursday night at 5:15pm in Sartain Hall as the first half of a double header between Troy and Florida Atlantic.
