Trojans Fall to Owls at Home

Troy women's basketball fell to Florida Atlantic 66-46 in Sartain Hall Thursday night.

Troy, Ala. - Troy (1-16, 0-6) women's basketball fell to Florida Atlantic (9-8, 4-2) at home on Thursday 66-46 giving the Trojans their eighth straight loss.

“We did not play well, said head coach Michael Murphy.

“We got exactly what we deserved, which surprised me because I thought our preparation was good. Apparently it wasn't good enough, but this is the first time all season I have been disappointed with the effort. I'm disappointed with their discipline and turnovers. We simply did not play well.”

The Trojans came out strong on their home court getting up to a quick 5-0 start on the Owls courtesy of a Brooke Bowie three point shot and a DeAngela Sword jumper. However, the Owls rebounded with a 16-2 run over the Trojans. Troy would struggle to regain their momentum in the first half and would go into the locker room trailing 34-18 at halftime.

Troy was able to pull back into striking distance in the second half with a 10-0 run, but their efforts fell short with the resurging Owls with a 15-6 run. Overall the Trojans struggled to overcome giving up 22 points off of turnovers to end the contest with FAU on top 66-46.

Junior Sarah McAppion led the Trojans in scoring for the first time this season, recording 15 total points coming off the bench but went on to foul out of the game with 3:28 remaining in the game.

DeAngela Sword led the team in rebounds, recording 10 total rebounds and tying her season best with four assists.

“Now we have to regroup in a hurry and prepare for Monroe,” Murphy said.

The Trojans now only have two days to prepare for their next conference test against Louisiana Monroe who they will host on Saturday in Sartain Hall. Tipoff is set for 5:15.
