TROY Sweeps Middle Tennessee

Trojans face top-seeded FIU in quarterfinal round on Friday

MOBILE, Ala. (SunBeltSports.org) – No. 8 seed TROY swept No. 9 seed Middle Tennessee 4-0 Thursday morning to move on in the 2011 Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship.
With the win, TROY will now face No. 1 seed FIU Friday morning at 9 a.m. The match is scheduled to be played at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Trojans were able to jump on top early by winning the doubles point with victories at number two and number three doubles. Troy's duo of Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega defeated Middle Tennessee's pair of Lexi Brand and Manelta Bigus 8-4 at number two, and the doubles point was won at number three with an 8-3 triumph by the Trojans' Lyubov Dorofeeva and Gabriella Veiga over Taylor Coffey and Alex Dachos.
Needing just three singles victories to move into the quarterfinals, the Trojans got them at all the odd-numbered singles matches.
At number three singles, Troy's Guijt outlasted Bigus with a 6-1, 7-6 victory. Meanwhile, Karoline Grymel followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Yuiri Nomoto at number one, and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega then clinched the match for Troy with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Dachos at number five singles.
