Box Score
FT. MYERS, Fla. – The Troy University women played their third match in as many days in the Sunshine State on Wednesday afternoon, and walked away with a 4-3 of Toledo in non-conference action.
Troy (5-8) started the day off quickly by grabbing the doubles point, but it was a singles match that stole the show and clinched the match for the Trojans.
Karoline Grymel found herself in a battle at number one on Wednesday afternoon after she dropped the first set. Not only did she drop the first set, but she fought off three match points in the second set to force a third. It was that third set in which Grymel was able to pull away and give the Trojans the overall victory; winning her match 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 over Toledo's Polina Guimaraes.
In other singles victories for the Trojans, Olfa Dhaoui won at number two as she defeated Toledo's Ashley Frye 6-3, 6-0; while senior Leonie Guijt won her match at number three singles over Toledo's Kelsey Anonsen 7-5, 7-6 (7-2).
Toledo was able to get three wins in singles to make the match interesting, winning at number four, five and six on the afternoon. At number four, Alexandra Cristello defeated Troy's Lyubov Dorafeeva 2-6, 6-3, 6-3; while at number five Christine Coffman defeated the Trojans's Rosaura Ramirez-Vega 6-3, 6-4. At number six, Amanda Border was able to escape with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Troy's Olivia Battye.
Although Grymel won the match with her hard-fought victory; it was the doubles point that provided the margin of victory for the Trojans.
And again it was Grymel in a hard-fought match, this time with partner Guijt at number one doubles as they won their match 9-8 (7-4 in the tiebreaker). Meanwhile, the number two team of Dhaoui and Ramirez-Vega easily won their match 8-2; while the number three team of Battye and Dorafeeva won their match 8-6.
The Trojans return to action Friday afternoon on the road against FIU, with the match beginning at 1 pm (EST).
