Trojans clinch point at 4-1 on Saturday

TROY, Ala. – The Troy University men's tennis team returned home for the first time in a month, defeating Florida A&M 4-3 in non-conference action at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

“This was a good win for our team,” Troy head coach Eric Hayes said. “Florida A&M has beaten some good teams this season and it was a challenge for us to come back home to play them. We are starting to put things together for the rest of the season, starting with this match today.”

Florida A&M came into the match with victories over South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette - common opponents between the Trojans and Rattlers.

TROY (2-11) jumped ahead early in the match as they captured the doubles point, winning two of three matches in doubles – including at number one. The team of Mario Rolemberg and Branko Weber walked away with a 8-3 victory over Florida A&M's Maurice Wamokowa and Temuera Asafu-Adjaye to put the Trojans a point away from a clinching point.

Florida A&M captured the match at number two doubles when the team of Takura Happy and Chidi Gabriel defeated Troy's Niklas Jonsson and Sami Ghorbel, 8-3, setting the match up at number three for the point.

The Trojans clinched the point when the number three team of Anas Rouchdi and Jamie Eccleton defeated Florida A&M's Levan Clark and Michael Moore, 8-6.

Leading the overall match 1-0, Troy captured three singles to claim the victory.

Anas Rouchdi moved up to number one for the match on Saturday, claiming a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Florida A&M's Levan Clark to put the Trojans up 2-0 overall in the match. The Trojans won the final two matches of the day for the victory at number three and number five.

Junior Branko Weber claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Florida A&M's Maurice Wamokowa; while senior Mario Rolemberg claimed a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Michael Moore to close out the match.

TROY returns to action Friday on the road against Louisiana-Lafayette.
