Trojans Come Up Short Against Florida Atlantic

TROY loses clinching match in tiebreaker

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Troy University women 's tennis team fell short in their final match of their Spring Break road trip, falling to Florida Atlantic University 4-3 at Patch Reef Park on Sunday afternoon.
Florida Atlantic (6-9) captured the first point of the match in doubles by winning two of the three matches on tap for the day. The Owls won the first match of the day at number three doubles when the team of Cassie Bergeson and Natasha Phillips defeated the Trojans' Lyubov Dorafeeva and Olivia Battye, 8-1, to set up the clinching point for their teammates.
However, the Trojans' forced the third and deciding doubles match to be played out as the number one team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt defeated Florida Atlantic's Erika Mrazkova and Natasha Basma 8-2; setting up the final match at number two doubles.
Florida Atlantic was able to break serve in the final match, winning at number two doubles when the team of Justine Humair and Marlene Ryan defeated the Trojans' Rosaura Ramirez-Vega and Olfa Dhaoui 8-6; giving the Owls a 1-0 advantage in the overall match.
As the match moved to singles, Florida Atlantic quickly took a 2-0 lead when Natasha Phillips won her match over the Trojans' Olivia Battye 6-0, 6-3; however, Troy (5-10) was able to pull within a point at 2-1 when Lyubov Dorafeeva defeated Virginia Augustin at number four singles 6-1, 6-2.
The Owls pulled ahead and moved to within one point of clinching the match when Marlene Ryan defeated Olfa Dhaoui 6-2, 6-4; but the Trojans did not go away as Leonie Guijt pulled the Trojans within a point again as she won at number three over Florida Atlantic's Natasha Basma 6-2, 6-4.
But it was a tiebreaker in the second set at number five that did the Trojans in as Florida Atlantic's Erika Mrazkova was able to break serve in the tiebreaker, defeating the Trojans' Rosaura Ramirez-Vega 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
After the match was concluded, Karoline Grymel defeated Florida Atlantic's Justine Humair at number one single; 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.
