Trojans drop second consecutive match against conference opponent

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University handed the Troy University men's tennis team their second consecutive loss to a Sun Belt Conference opponent, defeating the Trojans 7-0 in their final match on the Spring Break trip.

Florida Atlantic (7-4) captured the doubles point as they won two of the three doubles matches; winning at number one and number two to capture the point. The Owls won at number one when the team of Marc Abdelnour and Ervin Garibovic defeated Troy's Mario Rolemberg and Branko Weber 8-3; while the number two team of Omar El Kheshen and Mark Wakim defeated the Trojans team of Anas Rouchdi and Jamie Eccleton 8-2 to capture the point.

Meanwhile at number three, although the match was all ready clinched, the Trojans' team of Niklas Jonsson and Sami Ghorbel (just back from Davis Cup action) defeated Florida Atlantic's Oliver Webb and Daniel Vardag 8-7 (9-7 in the tiebreaker).

In singles play, the Owls swept through Troy (1-11) to win the match.

Marc Abdelnour was the first off the court for Florida Atlantic as he defeated Branko Weber 6-3, 6-3; while Ervin Garibovic defeated the Trojans' Jamie Eccleton at number two 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, Niklas Jonsson fell to Florida Atlantic's Omar El Kheshen 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to clinch the match for the Owls.

After the overall match had been decided, three more singles matches were on the court to be finished – with the Owls winning all three in three sets.

Troy's Sami Ghorbel fell to Florida Atlantic's Oliver Webb 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at number four; while at number five Mario Rolemberg fell short against Florida Atlantic's Marc Wakim 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. The final match of the day saw Florida Atlantic's Daniel Vardag defeat Branko Weber 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
