Box Score
TROY, Ala. – The Troy University women held a slim lead after two singles matches, only to watch Charleston Southern storm back to take a 4-3 non-conference victory at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
Troy (2-4) won the doubles point as they swept through play in all three matches. The team of Karoline Grymel and Leonie Guijt were the first off the court for the Trojans at number one doubles, running to an 8-2 victory over Charleston Southern's team of Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic. The Trojans clinched the point when the number two team of Olfa Dhaoui and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega cruised to an 8-4 victory over Charleston Southern's Brooke Pletcher and Alexandra Walters.
After the point was clinched, the Trojans secured the doubles sweep when the number three team of Olivia Battye and Lyubov Dorafeeva defeated Charleston Southern's Heather Isbell and Susita Das, 8-4.
In singles play, Charleston Southern tied that match at 1-all when Marija Dzakovic defeated Troy's Olfa Dhaoui 6-4, 6-4 at number two singles. The Trojans were able to come back and take a 2-1 lead when Lyubov Dorafeeva defeated Charleston Southern's Alexandra Walters 6-1, 6-3; before the Trojans took a two-point lead with Olivia Battye's victory at number six over Heather Isbell 6-1, 6-3.
That's where things got interesting.
Charleston Southern won the next three matches to take the match; tying it when Olga Makhova defeated Karoline Grymel at number one; 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. The match was won when Brooke Pletcher defeated Troy's Leonie Guijt in three sets; 7-5, 0-6, 4-6.
“I am proud of the way our freshmen played today,” Troy assistant coach Tyler Faulkner said. “Olivia and Lyubov did a great job in their own personal matches, and keeping us in the match as a team this afternoon.”
