Troy Adds Valuable Points to the Season Total

MURRAY, KY . – The Troy Rodeo team made a long trek to Kentucky this past weekend and brought back some good individual results to add to the season total.
The men's team claimed a sixth place spot in the results with a score of 230 points. Lane Taylor and Nelson Wyatt finished the highest for the men's team with a good spot in the Team Roping event. “They had a little trouble in the first go, but they came back and made a good solid run which allowed them to place in the short go and average,” head coach Josh Simmons said.
The men's team also saw some individual success in the Calf Roping category. “Nelson also had an outstanding run in the first round with a 9.6 second run, which landed him in second place,” said Simmons.
The women's team finished the weekend in fourth place with a score of 130 points. Lanie Culligan, Kassandra Smith, and Whitney Hazouri were the only girls to make it back to the short go. Even with only three women making it to the short go, the women's team will still lead the overall standings in the region. “We will still lead the region after this rodeo, but we are going to have to get to work to maintain our lead.”
The Trojans usually get a week off in between rodeos, but this week brings no rest for the Trojan Spurs. The Trojans will travel to Magnolia, Ark. this week to compete at Southern Arkansas University. Troy will look to gain some valuable points before returning home for the annual Trojan Stampede later this month.
“We will definitely have our game faces on for the upcoming SAU rodeo this weekend,” Simmons said.
