The Troy Rodeo team competed in their second event of the fall season this past weekend when they traveled to Livingston, AL to compete in the University of West Alabama Rodeo.
The Trojan Spurs never gained any momentum and as a result, they didn't place well in points, but Head Coach Josh Simmons was still pleased with the effort.
“We fought a lot of adversity, but overall still did pretty good,” Simmons said.
The women's team continued some of the same success they had from the first rodeo, claiming victories in Breakaway Roping and a solid finish in Barrel Racing. Cassidy Aldridge took top honors in Breakaway Roping winning the short go and the average. Brittany Drawdy posted a solid score in Barrel Racing with a second place finish.
“We're real proud for Brittany and Cassidy for working at it real hard,” said Simmons.
Even though the women didn't win the team championship at UWA, their scores should be enough to still hold the first place standing in the Ozark Region.
“Even though the women didn't do so well, they should maintain the lead in the points.”
The men's team shared some of the same success as the women did. Cody Skelton placed second in the short round and third in average in Calf Roping. Freshman Nelson Wyatt tied for fourth in the short go and placed sixth in the average in the same event.
The men's team didn't have a cowboy compete in Bull Riding at the first rodeo at MVC, but Sophomore Justin Walker participated at the event at UWA. He placed fourth in his first go and second in the short go, while placing second in the overall average.
“He rode two bulls, which is hard to do. It's a good feat for a bull rider because that's pretty hard to do.”
The Trojan Spurs look to improve at their next rodeo when they travel to Murray, Kentucky to compete in the Murray State University Rodeo.
“We've got to get back to the drawing board and fix what we did wrong.”
Competition will begin Thursday, Oct. 27, and continue through Saturday, Oct. 29.
