Troy falls to 61st-ranked UC-Santa Barbara

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 62nd-ranked Troy University men's tennis team fell to 61st-ranked UC-Santa Barbara 4-0 to close out the ITA Kick-off Classic. The match was played on the University of Florida campus inside Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.

Troy (0-3) dropped the doubles point when they fell at number one and three; however, they did get a win on the day at number two doubles.

At number two doubles, the team of Sami Ghorbel and Anas Rouchdi defeated the UC-Santa Barbara team of Mathieu Forget and Benjamin Recknagel, 8-4. Meanwhile, the team of Taylor Chavez Goggin and Alex Konigsfeldt defeated Troy's Niklas Jonsson and Mario Rolemberg at number one, 8-2; while the team of Evan Jurgensen and Philip Therp defeated Troy's Jamie Eccleton and Branko Weber, 9-7, to clinch the point.

In singles play, UC-Santa Barbara won the three completed matches to take the match; however, the Trojans were leading at number six and split the first two sets at number four.

At number six singles, Jamie Eccleton was leading UC-Santa Barbara's Philip Therp 1-6, 6-1, 3-2 when the match was halted; while at number four, Niklas Jonsson split the first two sets with UC-Santa Barbara's Taylor Chavez Goggin 3-6, 6-1.

In the completed matches, Mathieu Forget defeated Troy's Sami Ghorbel 6-0, 6-3; while at number two, Troy's Anas Rouchdi lost to Alex Konigsfeldt 6-2, 6-3. UC-Santa Barbara clinched the match when Mario Rolemberg fell to Max Glenn 6-3, 6-4.
