Trojans Tennis Falls to Another Ranked Opponent on Saturday

Troy has opened the season with four road matches, all against nationally-ranked opponents

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - For the fourth consecutive match, the 65th-ranked Troy University men's tennis team fell victim to another ranked team; this time it was the hands of the 33rd-ranked Crimson Tide of Alabama, 5-1.
Troy (0-4) and Alabama (2-1) opted not to play doubles due to the windy weather and the cold temperatures in Tuscaloosa, opting instead to decide the match in singles play.
Alabama took an early 2-0 lead in the match when they got victories at number two and three to open the day. At number two, Alabama's Jarryd Botha defeated Troy's Anas Rouchdi in straight sets; winning 6-0, 6-0. That win was followed up by a 6-0, 6-2 victory by Alabama's Daniil Proskura over Troy's Sami Ghorbel.
Troy trimmed the deficit to 2-1 when senior Mario Rolemberg walked off the court a winner Saturday morning. Rolemberg defeated Alabama's Ian Chadwell 6-1, 6-1 at number five; while three of his teammates were still on the courts deciding the outcome of the match.
Alabama moved one step closer to the win as Ricky Doverspike defeated Troy's Branko Weber 6-4, 6-4 at number to take a 3-1 match lead. The match was decided when Carlos Taborga defeated Troy's Jamie Eccleton 6-2, 6-2.
After the match was clinched, Alabama's Michael Thompson defeated Troy's Niklas Jonsson 6-3, 6-4 at number four.
The Trojans hit the road Sunday to take on their fifth consecutive ranked opponent on the road, facing 31st-ranked Auburn. The match begins at 1 pm on the Auburn University campus.
