The Trojan Women Hope to Build on the Success of First Meet
The Troy University women's indoor track and field team will head into competition this week, after taking a week off following their opening meet at Tennessee State.
The team had a solid start at the Ed Temple Classic with many of the returning athletes performing well. Several of the newcomers also received experience early in the season.
“We came away from Tennessee State with numerous personal bests and valuable experience for the young athletes,” Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, Jill Lancaster said.
Sophomore Ja-Courtney Alexander had a good outing at Tennessee State with a second place finish in the 55-meter dash; while senior Sylvia Chirchir placed second in the 3,000 meter run. Meanwhile, the distance medley team and 4x400-meter relay teams also had good outings.
The positive early results have the coaching staff looking forward to building more success at this week's meet.
“We were delighted to get some good workouts in leading into the competition,” assistant coach Chip Brundage said.
The Middle Tennessee Invitational will include teams from Samford, Belmont, Florida A&M, Tennessee State and Chattanooga. The coaches believe their athletes are ready for the challenges of this weekend, after the progress they have seen in practice.
“We will see a top conference foe in Middle Tennessee, on their home turf," Lancaster said. "We expect our student-athletes rise to the occasion."
