QUICK HITTERS
The Trojans are ready to kick-off the 2010-11 regular season and have the first opportunity to get more valuable experience for a relatively young squad.
• Troy is aiming to improve upon its exhibition win over West Alabama in its regular season opener with Huntingdon College from near-by Montgomery.
• The Trojans return just three players that played double-digit minutes a season ago, but do add a pair of guards with starting experience.
• Both Regis Huddleston and Travis Lee redshirted last season to save a year of eligibility and will be counted on for big minutes this season. Lee will be counted on once he returns from knee surgery. He is expected to miss the first month of the season.
• Vernon Taylor, Levan Patsatsia and Bernard Toombs each played double-digit minutes as juniors a season ago. All three are being looked to as starters going into the new season.
• Troy is 33-27 all-time in season openers, including 6-10 as a Division I program. Head coach Don Maestri is 14-14 in openers.
• The Trojans are opening the season against a non-Division I opponent for the second straight season and the seventh time since moving to Division I for the 1993-94 season. Troy is 5-1 all-time in those openers against non-DI's and has won five straight. Its only loss came against Faulkner on November 26, 1994, 115-110.
• Troy head coach Don Maestri is beginning his 29th season at the helm of the Trojans program. Associate head coach David Felix is taking it one step further. Felix is set to start his 30th year.
