Troy Knocks Down 13 3-pointers in Win

TROY – Troy overwhelmed Division III Huntingdon College with its size, speed and shooting ability as it cruised to a 100-59 win on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
It took just two seconds for Troy to score its first two points of the 2010-11 season as Vernon Taylor took the opening tip of the game and scored two and drew a foul for the three-point play.
A hot-shooting Regis Huddleston helped the Trojans to a 52-29 lead at the break. The senior from Bay Springs, Miss. knocked down 5-of-6 3-point attempts in the first half. Huddleston finished with 15 points, all in the first half.
Taylor's 3-pointer with 13:12 left capped a 15-5 run by the Trojans to start the second half. He finished the game with a team-best 21 points along with seven rebounds.
Fifth-year senior Bernard Toombs made the second start of his collegiate career and the first since his second season of play – a stretch of 93 games and 1,047 days. He finished the game with seven points, five rebounds and four blocks.
Fellow big man Tim Owens tallied 13 points and seven boards along with two blocks in his first game for Troy.
Troy broke the 100-point barrier with a 3-pointer by DeAndrae Ross with six second remaining. Ross finished with 17 points in his first game as a Trojan.
The Trojans are in action next on Monday when they travel to face in-state foe the University of Alabama. Tip-off at Coleman Coliseum is for 7 pm.
