C.J. Wamsley is in his third season on the Troy coaching staff as the volunteer assistant coach. Wamsley will work with the catchers and outfielders in addition to working with the Trojan hitters.
In his first season, Troy finished 11th in the NCAA in doubles per game (2.16), 13th in doubles (125), 21st in home runs (47), 24th in home runs per game (0.81) and 35th in scoring (6.4). He coached true freshman catcher Jake Harrell, who was in the running for Sun Belt Freshman of the Year after he hit .286 with 12 doubles and three home runs despite missing all of fall practice.
     Â
Wamsley came to Troy from Morehead State, where he served as an assistant coach and camp coordinator for the Eagles. While at Morehead State, Wamsley coached catcher Taylor Davis who currently plays in the Chicago Cubs organization.
Wamsley has also served as the hitting instructor and third base coach for the Morehead City Marlins of the Coastal Plains League.
During his stint with the Marlins, Wamsley coached the two of the top three hitters (Chase McDonald, East Carolina, and Joe Sclafani, Dartmouth) in the Coastal Plains League. Both were selected as Summer All-Americans for their play with the Marlins. Wamsley helped coach McDonald to the Offensive Player of the Year Award for the Coastal Plains League.

Wamsley, a four-year letterwinner at Western Kentucky, was a .300 career hitter for the Hilltoppers and participated in a pair of NCAA Regionals (2008 – Stillwater, Okla., 2009, Oxford, Miss.), as well as playing on a pair of Sun Belt Conference Championship teams (2008, 2009).
     Â
Prior to playing at WKU, the Ashland, Ky., native was a three-year starter at Boyd County High School, earning all-area honors in two of those three years. Wamsley was also named Section 8 Most Valuable Player and selected to the 2005 Kentucky High School Athletic Association State All- Tournament team.
Wamsley graduated from WKU in 2009 with a degree in corporate communication. Wamsley is married to the former Sarah Meade from Ashland, Ky.
