Troy Opens 2026 Season Strong at JSU Foothills Invitational

OXFORD, Ala. – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2026 seasons Friday morning at the JSU Foothills Invitational, held at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. The men's team earned a fifth-place finish with 122 points, while the women's team placed seventh with 219 points.
"I was generally pleased with the execution of the race today," head coach Brian Cunningham said. "The men did an excellent job of moving forward in the second half of the race. I think we learned a lot on the women's side. All in all, a positive first race of the season. We'll look forward to a big week of training, then the next races at Montevallo."
After missing last season, Riley Treadaway returned to lead the way for the Trojans in the men's 5K, with a time of 15:42.10 to finish 13th overall. Meanwhile, in his fourth-year, Keith Warner followed close behind in 20th at 15:55.10, with Fairhope, Ala. native Lane Watson rounding out Troy's top three at 15:59.20 (23rd).
Completing the top-50 for the Trojans were Patterson Graham (16:13.30) and Caden Blackman (16:37.50), placing 35th and 48th, respectively.
On the women's side, Abby Jepkemboi made her Trojan debut as Troy's top runner, taking 35th place with a time of 19:38.90. In her third season, Haley Wilson crossed next for the Trojans at 20:09.90, followed by Winny Kosgei, timed at 20:24.20, who placed 51st and 54th, respectively.
Rounding out Troy's top-five were Giulianna Rivero (20:28.30), who placed 57th, and Kady Schwietz (20:59.80), who placed 68th in her cross country debut.
