The Trojans (18-19) outhit the Privateers (16-23) 16-12 in a back-and-forth affair that featured five lead changes and three ties, though Troy's pitching issued nine walks and three HBPs to seven walks and two HBPs for UNO pitchers. Jimmy Janicki led Troy at the plate, going 3-for-6 with a career-best six RBIs, which included back-to-back home runs with Steven Meier in the fourth inning to even the score at seven apiece after the Trojans trailed 7-3.
Troy claimed an 8-7 lead in the sixth on an RBI fielder's choice from Nolan Book, but UNO immediately evened the score with a solo homer by Owen Smith. It was the only run that Cooper Ellingworth allowed in three innings of work, as the junior struck out a season-best six hitters.
Janicki's fifth and sixth RBIs of the game came on a two-run double in the seventh, but Eli Tidwell hit a two-run homer off of Noah Thigpen in the eighth to even it for New Orleans. Drew Nelson, who started in left field, pitched a hitless ninth for the Trojans to send it to extras, but Troy was unable to score in the top of the tenth, stranding Nelson and Book, who both singled.
Nelson struck out Smith to open the tenth, but a dribbler down the third base line gave Tidwell a one-out infield single. A strikeout to Cummings put Troy an out away from sending it to the 11th before an Adrian Dominguez double appeared to walk it off for the Privateers. The ball hopped over the wall in right-center for a ground-rule double, forcing Tidwell to stay at third and giving Troy some extra life, but Josh Hoffman followed with a walk-off single on a chopper that ticked off Nelson's glove.
Early in the ballgame, Troy put up two runs in the first on RBI singles by Janicki and Meier, but the lead was short-lived as UNO put up a five-spot in the bottom. Troy starter Matt Dill didn't record an out while issuing five runs and four earned runs on two hits, two walks, an HBP and an error.
Troy scored another in the second against New Orleans starter Bryson Goff, who issued 10 hits and six runs in 3.1 innings, on an RBI single by Josh Pyne, but UNO scored two runs against Hayden Smith in the second, including a solo homer by Kruise Newman.

Head Coach Skylar Meade
"It's us-versus-us. I've come to that conclusion. That's not a conclusion I love. It's an us-versus-us battle. It's never been more apparent. Certain things that happen, just things you go 'hey here's what's going to happen, here's what you've got to do', we're not doing it."
Next Up
Troy returns to Sun Belt action at Riddle-Pace Field this weekend with a three-game set against Louisiana, Friday through Sunday.
