4/16/2026 3:36:00 PM | Baseball
TROY, Ala. - Troy baseball returns to Riddle-Pace Field this weekend with a three-game series against Louisiana.
The Trojans are coming off a four-game road trip that featured a key 2-1 series win at Texas State, followed by an 11-10, extra-inning loss at New Orleans on Tuesday. Troy's offense exploded for 42 runs in the four-game trip, featuring two homers by Jimmy Janicki and Caden Reeves and a go-ahead 11th-inning home run by Josh Pyne in the series finale against the Bobcats.
Lefty Benjamin Stubbs gets the Friday night start, carrying a team-best 3.12 ERA. The senior entered the Texas State series riding a streak of six consecutive quality starts before a near three-hour rain delay, which came after 2.2 innings without an earned run, ended that streak.
Right-hander Tommy Egan will start for the Trojans in game two as one of the top strikeout threats in the conference, ranking third in the Sun Belt with 63 punchouts on the season. The senior tossed his first career complete game in Troy's 15-2 run-rule victory at Texas State last Saturday, striking out eight and holding the Bobcats to two runs across seven innings.
Junior righty Cody Brasch draws the game one start for Louisiana after spending the majority of the season in a relief role. In 14 appearances and one start, which came in a win over LSU on March 4, Brasch boasts a 2.25 ERA and 47 strikeouts across 33 innings. Game two starter Andrew Herrmann, a graduate lefty, leads the Sun Belt with 63.2 innings and owns a 3.68 ERA with 72 strikeouts. Neither team has announced a starter for Sunday's finale.
As a team, Louisiana's offense ranks last in the Sun Belt in both batting average (.247) and runs per game (5.2), but the Ragin' Cajun pitching staff has been among the best in the conference, ranking third in ERA (4.89), second in WHIP (1.31) and fourth in strikeouts per nine innings (9.4). Lee Amedee leads Louisiana with a .339 average and a team-high 22 RBIs, while power-threat Donovan LaSalle has launched a team-high five homers with a .229 average.

The Trojans have hit eight homers in their last three games, launching at least two in all three contests. It's Troy's most homers in a three-game span since April 26-26, 2024, when the Trojans hit eight bombs in a sweep at No. 12 Coastal Carolina.
Bring 'Em Home, Jim
With nine RBIs in his last two games, including a career-high six at New Orleans on Tuesday in a game that saw him fall a triple shy of the cycle, Troy catcher Jimmy Janicki has skyrocketed to the Sun Belt lead in RBIs (48). The sophomore's 48 RBIs rank 20th nationally and are the third-most among all catchers in college baseball.
Pyne Time

During that stretch, the redshirt senior is slashing .372/.444/.606, collecting 35 hits, 13 doubles and three homers out of the two-hole for the Trojans.
The Indiana transfer currently ranks No. 1 among active Division-I players in career hits (269) and doubles (73). His 15 doubles this season rank third in the Sun Belt and 21st nationally.
