Troy Heads to Nashville for Midweek Clash at Vanderbilt

TROY, Ala. - Troy Baseball is back on the road for its third of four consecutive SEC midweek trips to open the season, as the Trojans will head to Nashville, Tenn., to face Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
The Trojans are coming off a 1-2 weekend at the Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, N.C. Troy fell to Western Carolina on Friday and host East Carolina on Saturday before topping Rutgers 2-1 on Sunday behind seven innings of one-run ball with two hits from lefty Benjamin Stubbs.
Troy catcher Jimmy Janicki leads the Trojans with a .381 average this season. The sophomore also hit his team-best third homer of the year against Rutgers, surpassing his freshman-year total of two. Last week, D1Baseball.com named Janicki their No. 16 college prospect for the 2027 MLB Draft.
Vanderbilt is coming off a 0-3 weekend in Las Vegas with losses to UC Irvine, Arizona and Oregon, though the Commodores still boast one of college baseball's most prolific offenses, ranking third nationally with 28 homers. On the mound, the Vandy pitching staff has a 4.44 team ERA with 11.0 strikeouts and 4.44 walks per nine innings.
Neither team has revealed its starting pitcher for the matchup, as Vanderbilt is set to play a home game on Tuesday against Central Arkansas before the Wednesday matchup with Troy.

Troy's matchup at Vanderbilt will be its third of six SEC midweek games this season. Troy fell to No. 3 Mississippi State 13-7 on Feb. 17, before knocking off No. 8 Georgia 6-5 in 12 innings on Feb. 25. It was Troy's first top ten win since defeating #5 Auburn in 2017.
In the win at Georgia, Blake Cavill and Drew Nelson each homered. Nolan Book delivered a 3-run double in the eighth, and Houston Markham scored the winning run in the 12th on a wild pitch. Troy used seven pitchers, and it was freshman Matt Dill who finished it out with 2.2 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts.
Fire in the Bullpen
The Trojans' pitching staff has averaged 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings this season, and the bullpen has been a key producer in that, as Troy's relievers have been on fire with 57 strikeouts in 41.1 innings (12.5 K/9).Â
Five Trojan relievers own an ERA below 3.50 in Jackson Lucas (0.00), Cooper Ellingworth (2.57), Zach Crotchfelt (2.70), Dylan Alonso (2.89) and Dylan King (3.37). Alonso also leads the team in both wins (2) and saves (2).
