Troy Baseball Earns At-Large Bid to Gainesville Regional

TROY, Ala. - For the ninth time in program history and first time since 2023, Troy baseball has punched its ticket to an NCAA Regional.
The Trojans earned an at-large bid to the Gainesville Regional hosted by No. 8 national seed Florida. The regional also includes No. 2 seed Miami and No. 4 seed Rider. Troy will play Miami on Friday at Condron Family Ballpark. Game times for the Gainesville regional are still to be determined.
"Today is an amazing day for all Trojans," head coach Skylar Meade said. "It was a battle in so many ways this year, but we were more than deserving of this, and we will compete our tails off this weekend."
Troy finished its 2026 campaign with a 32-29 record and owns the nation's No. 6 strength of schedule and the No. 1 non-conference strength of schedule. Troy is the first non-power conference team with a top ten strength of schedule since South Florida's No. 9 strength of schedule in 2018.
The winner of the Gainesville Regional will match up with the winner of the Hattiesburg Regional, hosted by No. 9 seed Southern Miss. Also in the Hattiesburg Regional is No. 2 seed Virginia, No. 3 seed Jacksonville State and No. 4 seed Little Rock.
The Trojans surged with a hot month of May, seeing their RPI climb 32 spots from No. 67 on May 1 to No. 35 on Selection Monday. Troy defeated rival South Alabama four times in the month, including twice in the Sun Belt Tournament, while also picking up an SBC Tournament win over Southern Miss.
Troy's win over the Golden Eagles was its fourth over an NCAA Regional host. The Trojans had previously taken a game from Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on March 20, while earning wins at No. 3 national seed and SEC Champion Georgia on February 25, and at home against No. 7 national seed Alabama on May 5.
The Trojans also won a series over SBC Tournament runner-up Louisiana, which was selected as the No. 3 seed in the Starkville Regional, as well as a crucial road series at Texas State, which was selected as the No. 3 seed in the College Station Regional.
Individually, sophomore catcher Jimmy Janicki was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year, leading the conference in home runs (17) and RBIs (73) while ranking 11th nationally in doubles (22). Seniors Aaron Piasecki and Drew Nelson were also First Team All-Sun Belt selections at outfield and utility.
Troy owns a 1-7 all-time record against Florida, most recently playing a three-game series with the Gators in 2020. Troy has only played Miami once, a 12-4 loss in Atlanta in 1978, and is 2-0 against Rider, winning a pair of games against the Broncs in Panama City, Fla., in 1992.
