Uncapher’s Late Goal Lifts Troy Past Coastal Carolina

TROY, Ala. - Troy soccer defeated Coastal Carolina, 1-0, in thrilling fashion Saturday afternoon behind an 87th-minute goal from Alaina Uncapher. The win marked the Trojans' first Sun Belt victory since 2024.
Troy (2-8-2, 1-3-0 SBC) went down a player in the 84th minute after Imani Hamilton was sent off following a challenge. Despite playing shorthanded, the Trojans continued to control possession and create chances, culminating in Uncapher's game-winning goal.
Moments later, Taylor Richards denied Coastal Carolina (6-5-2, 0-3-1 SBC) in front of goal, fully extending to her left to keep the clean sheet and secure three points for the Trojans.
The two teams traded shots early in the match, with both sides working towards scoring chances. Despite it, no quality chances arose, as Richards made two first-half saves while Coastal's keeper Aris Lammana did not face a shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
Imani Hamilton ripped a shot to begin the second half from the short corner, just missing the top right of net.
Coastal began to create pressure offensively; the Chanticleers took 10 shots opposed to Troy's six in the second half.
Hamilton's 84th-minute red card forced Troy to play the final six minutes with 10 players. Despite the disadvantage, the Trojans recorded the next three shots, including the game-winner, as Uncapher headed home a corner kick from Brooke Slater in the 87th minute.
Richards and the Troy defense stepped up in a big way to close out the match. Richards made an all-important save in the 88th minute, while a follow-up attempt was blocked by a Trojan defender. The clock expired shortly after Troy earned a goal kick, securing the 1-0 victory.
Quotable – Head Coach Jake Wyman
"I thought the girls played really well; obviously some tough weather conditions today. They hung in there and absorbed a lot of pressure. I thought we defended really well, it was great to come out with a clean sheet. Great goal at the end from [Alaina Uncapher] and huge save at the end from Taylor Richards. I thought it was fully deserved, and I'm really proud of the girls efforts. They haven't quit on us and have kept going. They've put in some good performances and it's finally starting to pay off."
