Soccer Takes Down Louisiana Tech for Second Straight Sun Belt Win
10/8/2026 8:55:00 PM | Soccer
TROY, Ala. - The Troy soccer offense exploded for a season-high four goals on Thursday night, as Troy took down Louisiana Tech 4-2 at the Troy Soccer Complex.Â
The Troy (3-8-2, 2-3-0 SBC) offense also produced season highs in both shots (18) and shots on goal (9) as four different Trojans found the back of the net.Â
Taylor Richards turned in another impressive performance in net, making a season-high nine saves. One of Louisiana Tech's (3-8-2, 1-3-1 SBC) two goals came from the penalty spot following a handball by a Trojan defender.Â
The win gives Troy its second of Sun Belt Conference play; the Trojans have now won back-to-back conference matches for the first time since the 2019 season.Â
The Troy offense was strong from the opening whistle, as Alaina Uncapher narrowly missed a quality scoring opportunity wide in the third minute of the match. Â
Uncapher found redemption, however, as she got a foot on a Melanie Oldner cross through goal to open the scoring. The goal marked Uncapher's fifth this season and 10th of her career.Â
That would be all for the first-half scoring, thanks in large part to Richards' efforts. The fifth-year goalkeeper made five saves in the opening 45 minutes, none bigger than her stop in the 20th minute, when she fully extended to deny Reagan Roberts' shot that was tracking toward the top-right corner of the net.Â
Four of the match's five goals came in the second half, starting with Isabella Hartofelis' second goal of the season. Hartofelis buried a cross from Uncapher to double Troy's advantage in the 52nd minute.Â
Louisiana Tech tightened the match less than three minutes later, as Madison Pensom found twine to cut the Trojan lead in half.Â
The Bulldogs chased the equalizer for the ensuing minutes, but Richards and the Troy defense continued to leave them stifled. Â
However, one of Troy's three second-half corners proved to be the difference in the match. After Brooke Slater's delivery fell to Aiden Bailey, Bailey headed the ball toward goal, where Sofia Sasan finished for her first goal of the season to give Troy a 3-1 lead in the 86th minute. The goal ultimately proved to be the game-winner.Â
Shortly after the restart, a handball in the 18-yard box gave Louisiana Tech a penalty, which Ashley Leonhart converted to bring the Bulldogs back within one goal.Â
The Trojans took advantage of Louisiana Tech's press, scoring their fourth goal of the night in the 89th minute. Layla Juliano finished the breakaway, with Brooke Slater and Irene Torres providing the assists, allowing Troy to secure the 4-2 home victory.Â

Quotable – Head Coach Jake WymanÂ
"I thought it was a great performance from the girls tonight, I thought we started really well and could've gotten off to a bigger lead than we did. A great result for us, that's two in a row now. Getting into halftime one-nil I was a little disappointed that we didn't have a three or four goal lead, but I'm nit picking on that. I'm just excited that we were able to see the game out and put [Louisiana Tech] away at the end."Â
