TROY, Ala. - A gritty performance by the Troy back line helped the Trojans pick up their second conference point in a scoreless draw against James Madison on Saturday night.
While Troy (5-4-2, 0-2-2 Sun Belt) was outshot 21-1 by JMU (5-3-4, 1-1-2, Sun Belt), Taylor Richards made a career-best nine saves to pick up her fourth shutout of the season, which ties her for the Sun Belt lead.Â
The matchup was headlined by JMU's Ginny Lackey and Troy's Jiselle Daniels, who entered the night tied for the Sun Belt lead with seven goals apiece, but the Trojan back line of freshman Izzy Skinner and sophomore Brooke Slater held the Preseason Sun Belt Player of the Year Lackey without a shot on target.Â
Daniels had a one-on-one opportunity with JMU goalkeeper Lili White with less than five minutes to go in the match, but couldn't get a shot off before White made the save. JMU's Audrey Orrock responded with a shot on target that Richards saved to secure the draw.Â
Notables
Quotable - Head Coach Stuart Gore
"We just weathered storm after storm. Held the best player in our league to three shots and no shots on target. Couldn't be prouder of the team effort."
