Troy Soccer's Comeback Falls Short at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. - Troy's second-half comeback fell short in a 5-3 loss at Old Dominion on Thursday night.

The Trojans (5-5-2, 0-3-2 Sun Belt) trailed 3-0 at halftime after the the Monarchs (7-1-3, 3-0-2 Sun Belt), who entered the matchup ranked No. 51 in the NCAA RPI, fired off 16 first-half shots and scored goals from Yulia Khrystiuk (16'), Katie Lutz (30') and Gry Boe Thrysoe (44').

The Trojans were outshot 28-7 in the match and 11-4 in shots on target, but Redshirt freshman Megan Hamm got them on the board in the 50th minute. Hamm scored her first career goal from the left side of the box, as her shot near the goal line deflected into the net off an ODU defender.

Hamm kept the momentum with the Trojans as her pass to Melanie Oldner in the 64th minute gave a wide-open net to sophomore Hailey Phillips, who scored her first goal of the season to get Troy within one.

The Monarchs responded six minutes later, taking back the momentum on a goal by Ashley Economopoulos, while Thrysoe added her second goal of the night in the 82nd minute. Troy freshman Hayden Barnett capped off the scoring with her first career goal, going top shelf in the 89^th minute.

Notables

Megan Hamm scored her first career goal in the 50th minute and followed with her third assist of the season in the 64th minute. She's now tied with Elsa Stedman for third on the team with five points.
Hailey Phillips scored her first goal of the season in the 64th minute.

Troy's three goals were its first three goals of Sun Belt Conference play.
